We had $75 in free
zipcar credits about to expire, so we took a Prius down to Santa Cruz for a little 24-hour trip. Crappy weather, again. Also don't go to Santa Cruz when the
Amgen Tour of California is coming through, or you won't actually be able to go anywhere. Will go back in summer.

The Boardwalk in Santa Cruz was another kind-of-creepy place this time of year, with the carnival all shut down. Also, we unfortunately took no pictures of the campus of U.C. Santa Cruz, which was part forest, part oceanside ranch, with a few campus buildings scattered around. Alison will be going back to school here and I will be working from home, and life will be beautiful. This place was spectacular.
It's true that UC Santa Cruz was beautiful, although it is not ocean-side. It is up on a hill. It is like a giant redwood forest with a few buildings hiding among the trees, opening up to large pastures with a view of the ocean. See some pictures here: http://www.es.ucsc.edu/~fnimmo/website/ucsc_photos_2.pdf. Of course the Banana Slugs are hippies, and campus features its very own trailer park. (And I have no designs on school or moving, no matter what Matt says.)
